Memegen
The internal meme generator, minus the shared folder.
$2 per user / month
Pick a template, add the words, get a link. Memes are how internal news actually travels: this makes them fast to produce and easy to find again.
Why it exists
Internal news travels on memes whether or not anyone has sanctioned it. The migration is finally done, the on-call rotation changed, the quarter closed: the announcement email gets skimmed and the meme in the team channel gets read, quoted and remembered. The only question is whether making one is easy enough that people bother.
Memegen makes it a thirty-second job. Pick a template, add the words, get a permanent link and a PNG. Everything anyone has made is searchable, so the running joke survives the person who started it, and the template library grows because the team adds to it.
Inspired by the way this was run at Google: the parts that earned their keep, without the parts that only work at that scale.
What you get
- A shared template library your team adds to
- A permanent link for every meme, and a PNG to paste elsewhere
- Search across everything anyone has made
- Safe-for-work defaults with per-workspace moderation
How it works
- 1Pick a templateFrom the shared library, which your team adds to. The in-joke that needs its own template gets one.
- 2Add the wordsTwo lines, usually. The whole interaction is short enough that people make one instead of thinking about making one.
- 3Share the linkEvery meme gets a permanent link and a PNG, so it works in chat, in slides and in the doc nobody expected it in.
What teams use it for
Announcements people actually read
The migration notice nobody opened becomes the image everyone saw. Attach it to the email if you like.
Team culture that survives turnover
Search means a running joke is findable a year later, rather than lost with the channel history nobody scrolls.
Celebrating a ship
The launch went out, somebody makes the meme, and it lands in the channel while the good feeling is still there.
Common questions
- Is this actually worth paying for?
- It is three dollars a person and it is the thing your company reads. Teams who try it tend to find it does more internal communication than the newsletter does.
- How do we keep it safe for work?
- Defaults are safe for work and each workspace sets its own moderation. Anything made is attributable, which by itself settles most of it.
- Can we add our own templates?
- Yes, and you should. The shared library is what makes it yours rather than a generic meme site.
- Where do the memes live?
- In your workspace, searchable, each with a permanent link. Not in a shared drive folder called memes-final-v2.
